Image Upload Error

Hi, I am on version 1.4.4 of hikashop, using mozilla firefox and running joomla 1.5.21

I cannot upload images when I browse for them from my hard drive in category or products of hikashop, it comes up with the error message as follows:

* Warning: Failed to change file permissions!
* Could not upload the file /tmp/phpk2E86J to /web1/user30728/website/media/com_hikashop/upload/accessories.jpg

I have had a look in the FTP folder as mentioned in the error message and the image is actually there, so it uploads in the directory, but does not appear and displays this error. Can anyone help me please?

Hi,

The problem is not the copy of the file itself but the modification of its permissions. Could you try to change the permissions of the folder media/com_hikashop/upload to 777 and try again ?

If that doesn't work, then, you can try to activate the FTP layer of joomla:

Thanks so much for getting back to me so quick - but have tried both and no luck.

Ive also changed media settings from 'restrict uploads' from yes to no. Still not working.

Are you able to upload files via the media manager of joomla ?

Ive just uploaded an image in media manager, and it comes up with a similar error message:

* Warning: Failed to change file permissions! * Error. Unable to upload file.

Although I can see the image and it did upload. Strange!

So the problem is not in hikashop but in the way your server's access rights are configured.

Usually, using the FTP layer of joomla solves the problems. Are you sure that you configured it properly ?
Are you sure that the permissions of the folder media/com_hikashop/upload are now 777 ?

Otherwise, the only thing left is to ask your hosting company since they are the ones who configured your server's access rights...
