Mass actions Excel file format error

The XLS file that is output in the Mass actions section appears to be corrupt. The CSV files are fine. But, I get an error when I try to open the XLS files. The error message says the file is corrupt. There are two error messages:

1. www.dropbox.com/s/mg0yshn4etestmt/Screen...%2008.51.59.jpg?dl=0

2. www.dropbox.com/s/50es65czttxm7ol/Screen...%2008.52.37.jpg?dl=0

Could it be possible to get that XLS file and a screenshot of your mass action so that we could get a better picture of the problem ?

Attached are the XLS file and the screenshot of the Mass action setup page. There has been some work performed by Xavier on a different Mass action setup. I am not sure if that influences this action.

We were able to reproduce the issue on our end, and we found that our version of the xls file generated is under the format BIFF5. This format is no more supported in the recent versions of Excel, so we will see to update that version to BIFF8 in order to be compatible with the recent versions.

What can be done, is to try to open the current xls file with another reader like libreoffice, or openoffice.

We will see too to add a support for the latest xlsx format, which is using xml and no more BIFF format.

Is there a timeline on the update? If it was just me, I would use OO. But this involves a client. I would hate to ask them to install an Office alternative just to be able to open these files. They will want to use Office/Excel.

We can't give a date for the moment, but isn't the "csv" format a good alternative ?
This can too be opened in Office/Excel.

Yes, the CSV file works perfectly. It will not do what I wanted with the XLS file. But, I have figured out a workaround. So, I am OK for the moment.
