When I hit the button for the waiting list, I get this recaptcha error

This indicates that you have an old version of the Recaptcha plugin.
Download it again on our website and install it again on yours to get the updated version.

I have downloaded this plugin:

Reinstalled and it gives the same error. It seems like an old aversion. Is this download correct?

The download is correct, but it seems to be an issue in some rare cases with the backward compatibility for Joomla 2.5 which creates an issue on Joomla 4. So I looked into it and I've made a patch. Please download it again on our website and install it again on yours to get that extra patch and it should be better.

Sorry for the delay. It took me a while to try to reproduce the problem on my end.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to reproduce it with the latest version of the reCaptcha plugin on Joomla 4.1
Just to make sure, please try again to download the plugin install package on our website and make sure you're using that new install package to reinstall the plugin on your website.
And if you have caching on your website, clear the cache.
