sh404sef and related products

Hi,

I use sh404sef on my website and it's working fine with Hikashop.

But I noticed that the database is overloaded with SEF urls of Hikashop products.
The reason appears to be that each product has many SEF urls owing to the use of the related product module.

For instance: the product 'veter' has SEF urls like product/veter/related_product-10.html, product/veter/related_product-102.html, product/veter/related_product-1169.html and 300 urls like this.
Most of these urls are questionable. There are sef urls like this for many products that are not related to the product veter.
In total about 600 products having an amazing amount of 80.000 related_products urls.

Is there a way to get red of these superfluous related_product urls in sh404sef?

Hi,

That's something which can be dealt with with the latest version of HikaShop.
With it, you can set the "Force canonical URLs on listings" option of the configuration to "Use canonical URL and generate it if missing". That way, the system will always use the same URL in order to access the product page.

I understand this welcome new feature is part of Hikashop 2.3.1

I'm a little worried to update my Hikashop 2.3.0 since I would have to reconsider all template overrides and mail overrides, and redo several adjustments of core files and image files. And possible there are unexpected layout changes.

Is it possible to implement this new "Use canonical URL and generate it if missing" option by updating just a few files?

Hi,

That's not possible as this feature actually required us to modify about 40 files here and there. A real update will be necessary.
