Activate the "debug" setting of the Joomla configuration and try again. You might get an error message with more information which will help us tell you what to do.
If not, please look in the PHP error log for the real error message behind this generic "500" message. You might need to ask your hosting company support if you don't have direct access to the PHP error log.
