Large Amounts of Data in Customer Cart

Hi

I have just checked a website and there are large amounts of customer carts under Customers >> Cart in the admin area. A vast majority of them have no registration. Looking for advice on this as it seems rather excessive data storage and wonder of this is a sign of bots creating orders and is there way to prevent it.

What do you mean by excessive ?
A couple thousands of carts is not much.
A cart is just a few ids put together to link the products to the cart and the cart to the user.
Also, carts are differents from orders. The likely cause is that search engine crawlers try to index the add to cart links generating new carts.
So you can probably just ignore them.
And if you want to prevent them, you can modify the robots.txt of your website to disallow the URLs of the add to cart links:

Thanks for the reply. I have added the code suggested in the other post to the robots.txt file so will wait and see what that achieves.
