Custom product fields

Looking at a custom entry field in the demo there is a correspond to product field.

I created a custom product field.
This appears on all products.
Not obvious how to associate this with a particular product.

Am I missing something, or would this be a wishlist item?

Something like being able to associate the custom field with particular products or products in a particular category.

How about custom fields for categories?

When you create a custom field for a product, a column is added in the database in the products table. So all product get that option.
On the other hand, when you add a characteristic to a product, it is bond to that product in particular.

Currently evaluating, as time permits, with the aim of migrating an existing website to Joomla and adding a shop early next year. Hikashop looks like a good option - currently playing with ideas as to how to display a particular product range - need to do some more thinking and will be in touch.
