Coupons

Hi, I need Coupons handled differently then their default actions are now.
In my area, discount coupons need to be applied to the pre-tax total. Sales tax is only needed to be collected for the final amount being charged to the customer.
It appears that the current action handles the coupons as a form of payment and deducts the coupon value from the overall amount due, which means we are charging too much in sales tax based on my local state's sales tax rules.
Can this be an option for a future release to apply coupons before or after tax, similar to the current option flag available for discounts?
Is there an available work-around or minor code change that would give me this functionality today?
Thanks, Bill

Hi,
You have a valid point. But we will have to do it differently. In HikaShop, each product is taxed independently. That's because not the same tax apply to all the goods. For example, in France, essential food is taxed 5.5% but the rest is taxed 19.6% and alcohol or cigarets are taxed even more. So you can just calculate the total and apply taxes on it.
You need to have taxes for each element. For example, for shipping methods, you can tax the price of the shipping. That's how it should be for coupons. Have the possiblity to specify a tax category and tax the coupon value separately before substracting it to the total. We'll work on that.

How is this coming along? I've put some coupons in because we are only offering discounts on some products. Ideally the ability to restrict discounts to certain categories would fix the problem.

We'll add that to next release of hikashop (the possibility to set a tax category to a coupon).
Discounts are applied directly to the prices of products on the store BEFORE adding them to the cart. So you don't know any quantity or price. That's why these options are not available for discounts. What you can do is use a coupon with the restrictions you need and auto load it on the checkout (there is an option for that).
