is there any progress to this? You wrote it will be done this year, that was 1,5 years ago.

The current characteristics management system is really bad. I've an example for you:

I sell a glove. Gloves have 10 possible sizes. I've A LOT of colours in my system, let's say about 150. So, if I add the Product "Glove", and add the size and colour char., I automatically have 1500 variants of that glove, that maybe has about 50 in real (5 colours * 10 sizes).

Disable the automated generation of variants is an option, but what if you have 10 different types of gloves, all of them in 10 sizes and 5 colours. Then you have to add 10 products with a total of 500 variants.
It's just not possible to work with this if you have about 1500 products in all kinds of sizes and colours.

We're currently working on the new interface to handle characteristics/variants on the product edition page of HikaMarket. It should be available in next version of HikaMarket in one or two months. After that, we'll start eh work to backport the interface to the backend product edition interface.

As you say, the disabling of the automatic generation of variants helped a lot already even though there is still a lot of room to better handle the process in cases like the one you're mentioning.
