Characteristics on specific items.

How can I display certain characteristics (freetext entry fields) for one product but not for another. For example if I have 3 products but only want to display the characteristic "colour" on one of them.

You need to create a custom field of the table "item" via the menu Display->Custom fields (business edition).
In the options of the custom field, you can select categories on the right so that the custom field only displays for the products in these categories.
