Assign username as the email address for customers

Hello,
we'd like to create our customer accounts making their email address also the username; and modifying the registration form in accordion requesting only the email address and the password chosen.
Is this possible?

Yes, that's possible. You can change the option "Registration" to "simplified registration with password" in the Checkout tab of the configuration for that.
