[solved-trick]default image product & category

Hi,


Can we somehow change a default image for products and categories separately? Now there is only one default image for both.
In my case they also have different length and width which doesn't look good now.

Sure you can change that through the "Image" tab of your product/category's page.

You can have different size for the thumbnails by directly configuring the size of the thumbnails in the hikashop options of your menus/modules via the menus Display->Content modules/menus.

However, you can only have one default image.

That's what I thought.

Are you guys already planning on changing this in the next version or should I make a feature request?
I think it would be good to add the default image under:

• Default parameters for products
• Default parameters for categories

So moving it from Configuration -> Display instead of Configuration -> Main and making two blocks as said above.

This will let us choose two different images. I'm migrating a redshop webshop to hikashop and this is one of the small things that is missing.

There is no plan for that so it won't be in the next release.
I can add it to the TODO list, but so far no one requested that and there are already too many options in the configuration, so it's not a priority for now.
We'll see if we get more interest on that in the future.

I am also frustrated with the limitations of the defaults set in the system. For example, I need larger images for my category list than for my products list. Obviously, I have more products than categories. In order to fit my products in, I had to reduce their size in the thumbnail views but this has, by default reduced the size of my category images. It seems ridiculous to me that these images cannot be edited separately. That is also an issue when the category image and the product page header image cannot be edited independently. I have to have the same image whether I want it or not? Is there a way to override the default settings, at least for these two issues?

I have a simple solution if you are using two different sizes!
I literately just found out now by accident

You should try this, I think in your situation it will work since you want to use two different sizes.

Like I said let's say you have two different dimensions and you want the following:

1. (default) category images 140x140
2. (default) product images 195x130

When you set those dimensions in your Parameters for DIV then TWO folders will be created in this example with inside each a no_image.jpg file.
Location of the folders/files are:

1. /media/com_hikashop/upload/thumbnail_140x140
2. /media/com_hikashop/upload/thumbnail_195x130

Since I uploaded the default product image in the configuration and set it as default, I now have to only change the default category image by going to /media/com_hikashop/upload/thumbnail_140x140 and upload the my version of no_image.jpg

This seems to work.
At first I was thinking of maybe using a css swap image trick but then I used firebug and saw the location of the image and I had a eureka moment.
Here you can see two different default images. On top are the two default images of categories. And below you see the default product images.

Nicolas thanks for your reply/feedback. Can you still put this on the TODO list. I do personally think that more people want this but don't always ask on the board because they already asked things. Me too I was hesitant to post this. If you like I can make a new post with the title Feature request: Default product and category separately in the General Talk forum so that ppl can see and vote. That way it might get more feedback.
Btw I also saw someone asking to have a different default product image per category in another post

The point raised by IrishEyes is not relevant.
The size of the categories and products images can be changed independently by configuring different ones in the products or categories listing modules/menus based on how you use them.

I agree though that you can't set a different default image between categories and products. We'll see if we get feedbacks on that but so far you're the only one who requested that I remember of.
