Options for product as category?

Is it possible to chose a category for options instead of a single product?

- I would like to create a product, let us say a computer.
- I wan to add the option to choose Operating system, from existing products, in this way I do not need to create characteristics. But I want the option to take all products in a chosen category and let me choose from a drop down list.

At the moment it is only possible to choose a product as an option?

That's indeed not possible.

But this would be a great function, it would make life easier for people who like to have a shop with configurator. Maybe you should put it on the to do list.

I have seen this on scannet.dk shop system, very nice function and makes life easy, when you want to give customers the choice of upgrading a product.

A lot of things would be great and we have a lot of things in our TODO list.
The refactoring of the product page in the backend s one of these points and we will work on it quite soon using the work made in HikaMarket to improve the product edition.

About your requirement, your idea. I want to say that, it could be interesting and it is something which can be implemented using an external plugin.
You are free to create your plugins to add your features, the HikaShop developer documentation list all triggers and with the next release (thanks to mass-actions) you will be able to do a lot of things without coding at all.
