HikaShop 6.4.0 is a landmark release: HikaShop now works on WordPress. This version also introduces AI-powered purchasing via the UCP protocol, an OpenAI / ChatGPT Shopping product feed, five new product page layouts, a cross-CMS migration tool, and many backend improvements.
Let's dive into the major new features of this release.
- HikaShop on WordPress
- Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP)
- OpenAI / ChatGPT Shopping Feed
- 5 New Product Page Layouts
- Cross-CMS Migration Tool
- Product Edit Page Customization
- Order Import
This is the big one. HikaShop now runs on WordPress. You can use the same install zip file on WordPress' "Add plugin" upload form and then activate it. HikaShop will work basically the same as on Joomla, with a few adaptations to fit the WordPress environment.
This opens up HikaShop to a much wider audience and makes it easy to use the same e-commerce solution across both CMS platforms. Whether you are building a new WordPress store or looking for a more powerful alternative to WooCommerce, HikaShop is now an option.
We've added a UCP (Universal Commerce Protocol) plugin to HikaShop. UCP is an open standard co-developed by Google, Shopify, Etsy, Walmart and endorsed by over 40 companies including Stripe, Visa and Mastercard. Once configured and enabled, it allows AI assistants like Google Gemini to browse your catalog, create carts, and purchase products on behalf of their users.
The plugin exposes REST API endpoints and an optional MCP (Model Context Protocol) endpoint for AI-native integration. It supports both direct payment token processing (Google Pay) and hosted checkout flows, with the Stripe Checkout and Worldline Direct payment plugins already UCP-compatible. The Google Products plugin has also been updated to automatically signal UCP checkout eligibility to Google Merchant Center.
Read the full UCP setup guide for step-by-step configuration instructions.
The Google Products plugin can now generate a JSON product feed for OpenAI's ChatGPT Shopping, alongside the existing Google Shopping XML feed. This allows your products to appear in ChatGPT search results.
Both feeds share the same product data loading, so enabling the JSON feed has minimal performance impact. The feed includes product details, prices, images, availability, brand, variants with characteristic names and values, and even review counts and star ratings from HikaShop's built-in voting system. Simply set a file path in the plugin settings and the feed will be generated automatically each time the cron runs.
Read the setup instructions in the Google Products plugin documentation.
We've added 5 new modern layouts for the product page, on top of the existing "default", "reversed" and "tabular" layouts.
These new layouts, called "modern", "fullwidth", "gallery", "showcase" and "sticky", give you more options to present your products in the best possible way, without needing to create custom view overrides. Additionally, custom fields of the "product" table now have a new display setting so they can appear in their own tab in the tabular layout without needing a view override.
Building on the WooCommerce and J2Store migration tools introduced in HikaShop 6.3.0, we've now added a HikaShop-to-HikaShop migration tool.
With it, you can migrate your shop from one Joomla to another, one WordPress to another, from a Joomla to a WordPress, or from a WordPress to a Joomla. This makes it easy to move your store across environments, whether you're switching CMS platforms, consolidating sites, or setting up a new server.
The backend product edit page is now more flexible than ever. Each block can be resized, and the options inside each block can be split into 1, 2 or 3 columns.
This allows you to tailor the product editing interface to your workflow, putting the most important fields front and center and organizing the rest in a way that makes sense for your team.
We've added an "import" button to the backend orders listing. You can now easily import orders into HikaShop, which is particularly useful when migrating from another system or when you need to bulk-load historical orders.
Combined with the existing order export and the new HikaShop-to-HikaShop migration tool, this makes order management across sites and platforms more seamless than ever.
As usual, there is a lot more to discover about HikaShop 6.4.0, with bug fixes but also many smaller improvements and other features. You will find all these elements detailed in our change log.
Keep in touch folks.
