Amazon S3

This plugin stores the download files of your products on Amazon S3, or on any compatible storage service, instead of on your own server. Your customers download them straight from the storage service, so a large file no longer travels through your hosting, and the space it takes is no longer yours to pay for. Everything HikaShop checks before a download keeps working exactly as before.

• Sell large files without them going through your server on every download. A one hundred megabyte file downloaded a hundred times is ten gigabytes your hosting never has to serve.
• Storage on these services costs a fraction of what the same space costs on a hosting plan, and you only pay for what you use.
• Your downloads keep working when your server is busy, because the file itself is not served by it.
• Downloads resume and restart properly, which your customers notice on big files and slow connections.

• Your bucket stays private. Nobody can reach your files by guessing their address.
• Each customer receives a temporary link, valid for a few minutes by default, created only once HikaShop has checked that the order is theirs, that its status allows the download, that the time limit has not passed and that they have downloads left.
• Your download limits and counters keep working as they always did, and a download which cannot be delivered no longer costs your customer one of their attempts.
• The file is checked before the link is given out, so a file you removed from the bucket shows the usual HikaShop message instead of an error page from the storage service.
• Your customers download the file under its real name, not under the name it has in the bucket.

• You upload your files from the product page of your back end as usual. They go to the bucket instead of your server, with nothing else to do.
• Large files are sent in pieces, so the upload limits of your hosting do not stop you from selling a file of several hundred megabytes.
• An upload interrupted halfway carries on where it stopped instead of starting again from the beginning.
• An upload which is abandoned is cleaned up on its own, on both your server and the bucket, so it is not left costing you anything.
• The files uploaded by your customers through a custom field of the type "AJAX file" can also be kept in the bucket.

• A button in the settings of the plugin opens a screen listing the download files still on your server, with their size, and moves them to the bucket one by one without interrupting your shop.
• Each file is read back from the bucket before its record is changed, so a transfer which went wrong never leaves a product pointing at a file which is not there.
• Your files are copied, not moved, so you keep a working copy until you are satisfied. You can also ask for each file to be deleted from your server once it has been checked in the bucket, when what you are after is the space.
• A file used by several products is never removed from your server while another product still needs it.

Amazon S3, and the services which speak the same language, which includes Backblaze B2, Wasabi, DigitalOcean Spaces, Scaleway, OVH and a MinIO server of your own. For Amazon you only enter your keys and your bucket, the plugin finds out for itself which region your bucket is in.

• 1) Create a bucket on your storage service and keep it private.
• 2) Create a user allowed to read and write in that bucket, and get its access key and secret key.
• 3) Download the plugin from our website and install it on your Joomla or WordPress website.
• 4) Go to System > Plugins, open the "Hikashop - Amazon S3" plugin, enter your keys and your bucket, and save. The connection test tells you straight away whether it works.
• 5) Turn on "Send new uploads to the bucket" and upload your files as usual.

• Access key ID and Secret access key: the keys of the user allowed on your bucket.
• Bucket: the bucket holding your files. It must not be public.
• Region: leave it empty for Amazon, the plugin asks where your bucket is and remembers it.
• Endpoint and Use path style URLs: only for a compatible service other than Amazon.
• Folder in the bucket: the prefix your files are stored under.
• Lifetime of the download links: how long a link given to a customer stays valid. A download already started is not interrupted when it expires.
• Storage class: the storage class used for the files you send.
• Send new uploads to the bucket: when this is off, the plugin only delivers the files already in the bucket and your new uploads stay on your server.
• Debug: writes what the plugin does in the HikaShop log file.
