I had 1.5.7 installed and upgraded to 1.5.8

since i upgraded a few weeks back, all of the language overrides i had in 1.5.7 which are still in the override text box when i edit the language in the admin configurations, no longer work.

it seems i cannot override language anymore.

any suggestions?

thanks

It means that the override translation file is not valid.
It must be missing a double quote or has an extra one or a translation is on several lines, or something like that.

hi nicolas,
i have tested by deleting all text in the override box. reloading the en-gb language file from hikashop server.

then copying down only one line (for example INVOICE="Invoice" ) into the override box and change that to
INVOICE="Tax Invoice"

but this doesn't work. it used to work before i upgraded..

maybe this is a file permission issue?...

What do you mean by "it doesn't work" ? You can't save the override file ?
If that's the case, then yes, it's probably a permission issue.

But if you can, then the problem is elsewhere. We didn't change anything on that end in the latest version and it's still working for everyone else. So I can only think that you did something else on your end which led to that.

Joomla 2.5 has an editor for the translation override file, so you might want to try it:
demo.hikashop.com/administrator/index.ph...uages&view=overrides

It is compatible with the HikaShop override file.

Also, you will find in the configuration of joomla the "debug language" option which will give information on errors in translation files if activated. You will need to look at the bottom of the page for the language traces.

ok, i have worked out that the overrides only are created for the frontend of the site, not the backend as well.

how does the overrides in hikashop create overrides for the backend language?

Since a few versions of Joomla they changed the way the translation files are loaded preventing us from override the translations on the backend.
What you could do instead is to copy/paste your override file from your front end languages/overrides/en-GB.override.php to your backend administrator/languages/overrides/en-GB.override.php

That should hopefully make them work.

ah ok, that makes sense, because when i was using the hikashop to override the backend language was when I was still running J1.5

Now on J2.5.6 it isn't overriding the backend. I will just do it manually

thanks for your help :)
