Upcoming tax laws changing - how to adjust?

Right now there is strong pressure in the United States to implement "Internat Taxation" Jan 2012 no matter what state a person purchases for. Currently the laws allow us to only have to charge for people tax buying within the state we do business in (California for us), although technically we should ALSO be making that tax variable upon the county the live in within the state. We (and most businesses) get around this by adjusting the % to either the maximum county amount of the state or by just using the county we are in.

But new laws are suggesting we will need to charge taxes to every customer in the US and possibly even be required to break that out into the county tax rate in every state as well. What a nightmare of data entry! I'm still not properly set up to charge tax for just one California tax rate yet, but it seemed prudent to ask half way through November now if this issue has been discussed at HikaShop, and if you have any suggestions or thoughts on this.

It would sure be great if it was as simple as 1 single generic internet tax that was a simple 10% (you could then eliminate the whole tax section from programming and just hard code that variable 1 place) but politicians are known for being generally stupid and greedy and I can see this law trying to squeeze as much "blood money" from internet stores as possible. <end of quick political soap box lol!>

Thank you for your thoughts!

That will indeed complicate a lot the setup work as it will be impossible to enter all the county tax rates of the USA each time.
If that bill make it, that would require to adapt the tax system in HikaShop to have an easy way to load a preset tax system.

But for now we need to wait and see what will happen and how they want to implement it.
