Importing from external VM db?

Is it possible to import data from an external database containing an older VM backup?

Also, is it possible to have some categories as shops and others as catalogs?

No, you need to have virtuemart on your website database to import the data.

I don't understand your second question. Could you explain more what you want to do ?
