How to edit list format on products page?

Hello, thank you guys for making a great shopping cart for joomla!

I need some help. How do I change the view of products? When i add a new product it adds them in list format. I want the products to view accross the page instead of in list format. When i change layout on the products page in the backend it does not change the view of the products front end. Can someone help?
