So I have read everything I can find and thought I set up the tax correctly, but it is still is not working.

I am based out of Colorado, USA and need to charge state sales tax (2.9%) to anyone ordering inside Colorado. Everyone else there would not be any sales tax.

I set up a sales tax rule for colorado (see attached) but I cannot get it to charge sales tax?

Im sure im missing something simple but cant figure it out.

Thanks Ben

Hi,

The problem comes from the fact that you created a tax zone instead of using the colorado state zone which already exists.
Because of that, the system doesn't know the link between the colorado tax zone and the colorado state zone of the address and just thinks that it is two different things.

Nicolas,

So I deleted the Colorado tax zone that I created which was pictured on the above screen shot, is that all I needed to do? It still will not work.

How do I use the colorado state zone that already exists per your above post, is it a state under tax zones? Sorry but I cannot figure this out.

Thanks Ben

Ok, So I think I see what the problem is, but Im not sure how to change it. In the attached screen shot it shows the tax rule for Colorado sales tax. However there is no zone listed. It should show colorado as the zone correct?

Then you need to make sure that your products tax category is set to "colorado sales tax". By default they are set to the "default tax category". If the tax category of the product is different than the one of the tax rule, the tax rule won't apply to the product.

Also, make sure that your default customer type option in the configuration is set to "individual".

Nicolas Thank you I think it is working.

Two quick questions though?

1. On the check out it only says "Colorado" can it be changed to say "Colorado Sales Tax" if so how?

2. When you add the product to the cart, prior to registering, it lists sales tax and then if you use an out of state address it take it off. Is it possible to not add the sales tax until someone enters a Colorado address after registering?

Thanks, Ben

Hi,

1. The text displayed on the checkout is the name of your tax rate. If you want another one, create a new tax rate with the name you want and in your tax rules, change the tax rate to the new one.

2. Yes. You can do that by changing the "main tax zone" of the configuration of HikaShop. Use another zone so that the tax does not apply to it. You will have to log out/log in to clear the user session if you want to see the result as that data is cached in the user session.
