Main Product with Two Variants

Im wondering If I have entered my Main Product with Variants correctly. The products have two variants being "Paperback" and "Hardback". I have given the two variants their Prices which works fine. Now should I be giving the Main Product a Price as well? At the moment their is no price for the main product as there is not an additional product to the variants - hope that makes sense.

While it doesnt seem to be a problem when ordering on the site - I only see "Paperback" & "Hardback" options, when I search I get three results instead of two and also when I add a Category in my ACYMailing Newsletters it adds products with £0. Effectively I dont want the Main product to be listed and only the variants.

Thanks

Dave

Hi,

Variant would override values of the main product. So it would override the price and not make an addition.
Addition is done with "options".

About acymailing, maybe if you put an "0" quantity on the main product you would be able to "exclude" the product.
What is your HikaShop version ?
Could you give us more information about your category in acymailing ? (with a screenshot, maybe)

I want to check your configuration and be sure that there is not something missing in the hikashop-acymailing plugin about variants.

Ah - I hadnt got round to putting in quantities in. I think another problem I am going to get is the fact I only put in a description in the main product, and not the variants as the description is exactly the same for all. Now if I set the main product quantity to "0" I will indeed see the products I want but they wont have the descriptions. I guess the only choice for me now is to go and copy and paste the description into all my products - does that sound right?

Shop version is 1.6.0.

Having never used Acymailing I thought I would give it a go but seem to have hit these snags while playing around. All I did was create a basic newsletter, then inserted a hikashop category using the tag insert button.
I have attached the results and the screen where i inserted the tag.

If it helps I can give your backend access - The site isnt currently online/live though.

Thanks

Dave

Hi there,

We have looked around your issue and it seems that it's a "normal" behavior for Acymailing to interact with Hikashop in this way.
Actually, the automatic adding of recent product doesn't not look for recent variant since these variants are attached to a main product and it may disturb some users.
You can imagine that for someone selling shoes, adding each size of a specific shoe isn't really interesting...
Anyway, we'll think about that to determine if we can do something to simplify the process and make everybody happy, for now I think you can solve your problem by giving to your main product the variant's price you want to be displayed in the newsletter.

If this solution isn't good for you, you can still choose manually the variant and add it to the newsletter.
I hope these solution will help you :).

Thanks for you great support once again. At least I know im not doing something wrong. Indeed I will just go in and put the lower price to the main products and then if someone clicks the newsletter link they will be taken to the product where they can choose the variant.

Thanks Again

Dave
