Remove products from category listing

I'm currently testing an online shop using the free version, but will upgrade to a commercial version once I am happy that everything is displaying as I want it.

I created a Category view in the menu bar and clicking on it shows up all the categories, but it also starts to list products in the area below it. I have a similar view for Brands, and this works as expected.

Can anyone point me in the direction on the option to turn of the product listing on my category view?

Also, I have set the product views to show 12 per page with 3 per row. I am now getting error messages on this view before it finally show pagination options at the bottom.
