Guest checkout allowed even with an email already used by a registered account

Hi,

We'd like to understand how guest checkout is supposed to work in this situation:

If a customer places an order as a guest, using the same email address as an already existing registered user account on our site, is the guest checkout supposed to be blocked (asking the customer to log in instead), or is it normal for it to go through without any error?

On our site, the guest checkout currently goes through without any issue, even when the email matches an existing account. We just want to confirm whether this is the expected/normal behavior, or if there's something in our configuration that should be changed.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi,

that's something we changed in HikaShop 6.5.0:
www.hikashop.com/home/blog/535-hikashop-6-5-0.html#customers
Until then, users with a registered account with their email address had to log in in order to purchase. This created friction and we had many feedback over the years about it.
Now, a guest entry and a user account can coexist with the same email address so the friction is gone, all the while avoiding a guest user being able to access information from the user account under the same email address.
So yes, that's normal.

Hi, Does the 'guest' order get placed on the customers account like it would if they had logged in?
