page buttons missing from backend product list

hi,

when looking at my lists of products on the backend, the page buttons at the bottom have diappeared (the number of products to show, page numbers, next and previous buttons have all disappeared). here is a screen shot:

on that particular list i know that i have well over 45 products which aren't appearing. could i have changed a setting somewhere by accident? any other ideas?
