Customers being added as Authors

Hello,
When a customer creates an account they are added as an Joomla User in the Author Group. This is then allowing the customer to login and edit the articles via the frontend of the website.

Where and how can I turn off or select a different Joomla User Group for customers to be added to.

This option is a Joomla one, in Joomla > Users > Settings, you should be able to change the group by default.
