Ok, due to issues with the original install of my HikaShop Essentials over HikaShop Starter...I was wondering something & I hope the answer will be yes...

I've gone ahead & made a test database and site (completely isolated) because Joomla 3.x is causing TONS of issues for people, and I HAVE to upgrade to Joomla 3.x before the end of December of this year. Due to this, & the duplicate entries I got during my upgrade from Starter to Essentials...I was wondering if I did a fresh install of Joomla 3.x on my test site...is there a way to install HikaShop Essentials and then TRANSFER all of my settings, discounts, and ESPECIALLY PRODUCTS to the new "test" site?

What I'm trying to do is rid myself of a LOT of things that were setup by my original Webmaster. Jerome, if you're reading this, you know some of the errors & duplicate entries that I am talking about as you recently helped me out (as well as Xavier, Nicolas, and Mohamed).

This way, I have a "clean" install of Joomla 3.x, and a "clean" install of HikaShop...and I will know each & every module/extension/plug-in that gets installed!

Thanks

Hi,

It's possible yes.
First, export all the hikashop tables from your old database via phpmyadmin, then import it in your new database.
Then, copy the files and folders from media/com_hikashop/ from your old website to your new website.
Finally, install HikaShop on your new website.

2 things to be careful about:
1. if you're not using the same version of HikaShop, you might have some surprises with the database structure and you can click on the "check database" button of the HikaShop configuration to straighten that up.
2. If you don't have the Joomla users from the old website already in the new website, I don't recommend to import/export the tables relative to the user, order, history or address. Because if you do, you'll get orders/addresses pointing to none existing users and when new users register on your new website, they will be assigned the orders/addresses of a previous user from the old website. An alternative is to first export/import the joomla users from the old to the new website with some joomla user export/import tool.

Hey Nicolas,

That's awesome news! Both the live site & test site are running the same version of HikaShop.

Good call on the Joomla users, I did not think of that, thank you!

I will toy with this idea as I would REALLY like to get a good clean install on HikaShop, and it doesn't sound too terribly hard to do.

Thanks!

Nicolas,

I ended up going a slightly different route. Someone on the Joomla support forums was really helpful in figuring out what modules/extensions were installed by my original webmaster that were either useless to me or have no Joomla 3.x compatible update...so they have all been removed. This has left me with a MUCH cleaner Joomla install, due to that, there was no need to install a fresh Joomla 3.x install as I was able to upgrade.

Since I'm on Joomla 3.x on my test site, what would be the simplest way to completely uninstall HikaShop from my test site? Duplicate entries and everything? Thus by allowing me to install a fresh & clean copy of 2.3.3 and move all the files over as stated above?

Thanks!

Hi,

I don't think that you have to delete HikaShop and do a fresh install.
There is no useless files in your installation, doing a fresh install and keeping the overrides, and the entries will change nothing in your installation ;)

But if you really want, you can backup the HikaShop tables in phpMyAdmin, copy the "media/com_hikashop/upload" folder to keep the images, and copy the com_hikashop folder in the template one.

Then delete all the HikaShop tables, delete hikashop in "administrator/components" and "component", there is some files too in media/com_hikashop.

And then install the latest version, but once again, it doesn't seem to be usefull ;)

Hey Xavier,

One of the issues I'm trying to resolve by doing this is to get rid of all those duplicate entries in my HikaShop as shown in the attached image. I know they aren't causing a problem, but if I can simply delete HikaShop & re-install cleanly...then move the products back in, I think that would be best so there's no further issues down the road.

Hi,

It will be much more complex for you to do that than just ignore these duplicate plugins which aren't causing any damage.
In fact, they are not twice on your website. It's only their entries in the #__extensions table of your database which is twice.
It would be way simpler to just delete the doublons there via your phpmyadmin.

I will try to look in to doing that, but I honestly don't know how to do it in phpmyadmin...I'm very much so a newbie when it comes to this. I've had to learn on the fly from nothing when I took over for the webmaster that set this all up.

When you go in phpmyadmin, open your database, then open the extensions table and look at the entries there. You'll see the extensions name there, one per row and you should find the hikashop plugins near the end of the pagination and you'll have a delete action icon for each row that you can click on to remove it.
If you're not sure what you're doing, make a copy of the extension table before.
You'll find plenty of tutorials on how to use phpmyadmin online. Here is one for example:

Hello, please i created similar topic, and now i just found this one.

Need to import products and settings to my new website also, but i have no access to the old one website.
I cant export/import users from old one.
Which users do you mean? You mean admin user, or customers? There is no customer on my old website.
Just testing users created by me. Can you make me sure?
Im afraid i can easily break my website again :/

Username and password for administrator is same on both websites.
