Localhost install on testing machine

Just purchased and downloaded the latest version (2.3.4) and tried to install over my existing version 2.3.2 on my local, testing machine (local host).
Install reports success but the version does not change to 2.3.4.
Repeated installs doesn't change this.

I want to test before I implement some changes to the way images are displayed - I'm trying to get image alt showing on my live website for product images.

Currently product images do not show titles or descriptions.

I wanted to test locally using the latest version whilst I make attempts to show product images with alt added.
So, two questions: how to update local install and, how to include alt when displaying images??

Update: Fixed install on localhost - extracted files into the wrong directory (being stupid).
2nd question still remains: how to show alt as part of the image tag...

Well, a few hours of quiet and I've fixed it.
Added: alt="' . $image->file_name . '" to the <img> tags in show_block_img.php and show_tabular.php

Might help someone...
