-- HikaShop version -- : 2.4.0
-- Joomla version -- : 3.4.0
-- PHP version -- : 5.4
-- Browser(s) name and version -- : any

I have notice some issues when I update from one package to another. Packages 2.3.1 thru 2.4.0. I finally sat down to do some troubleshooting and comparison as to why. Although the response time are great the answers were mediocre. So here it is.... If you are having issues when you update please read.

1. Every time I upgraded the Hikashop back end looked like this (original site 2.4.0)

Notice that the menu names are white and not black I would have to manually go into the css and change the color from white to black. Minor I didn't think nothing of it. This and other squirrelly issues i have notice. The other issue I could not get pass ever since I upgraded from 2.3.2 to 2.3.4 is when I click on a sub category in the category menu it would give me a blank page (no product listing) even though it was working fine from the previous version. In order to resolve it I would have to duplicate the category module then redo the category and then it would work. Now that is until I upgrade again and/or reload the same version then it would break. So the issue was that hikashop wasn't updating the category alias name in the content menus.

Which means it should state domain.com/test-test/category/sub-menu/ vs domain.com/hikashop-menu-for-module-187/category/sub-menu/

So i started over with fresh new joomla 3.4.0 installation and hikashp 2.4.0 (The same version from the original website)

So when I install just Joomla and Hikashop. I get a cleaner hikashop and if you notice what's different from the first image is I now have affiliates menu. How can this be hikashop if both version was 2.4.0. I also have a version tag at the bottom.

This means that the hikashop update wasn't working. This has nothing to do with cache, joomla, or browser. This is the hikashop itself because it's all back-end coding from hikashop.

So now with the new setup does it resolve my issue? Yes and no. Let me explain. Instead of having
domain.com/hikashop-menu-for-module-182/category/sub-menu/ I name the Alias test-test. When I go to the sub-menu on the front end it goes to domain.com/hikashop-menu-for-module-182/category/sub-menu/. Hummm... let me reinstall hikashop 2.4.0 and retry.

After reinstall now it changes to domain.com/test-test/category/sub-menu/ so i repeat the process with another name. Doesn’t change domain.com/test-test/category/sub-menu to the new Alias name. After reinstall again of hikashop. By gosh it updates the new alias name in the url. That means it’s something wrong either with the upgrade not overriding the files or it has a serious bug.

So I looking around on the forum and I see comments where hika-team say download 2.4.0 again because they updated it. I don't understand why would you update a package and not change the version number. That's sloppy and people are not going to know to update if the version number is still the same.

Now I am a paid user but if I wanted to troubleshoot and give back to the community I would have stayed with virtuemart. I thought by using hikashop the updates and quality control would be much better. If you are having issues I urge you to install a fresh test copy of joomla and hikashop and see if that resolve your issue.

How can his be resolved?

Hi,

The menu of the backend had a glitch with the 2.4.0 version when you update from an old version where you had selected the top menu to be displayed under the title.
We've found out about it yesterday. If you download again the install package on our website and install it on yours, it will fix the display problem.

The alias not being updated on the frontend has nothing to do with the updates of HikaShop but with the cache of the menu items in Joomla. If you update the menu alias via the menu manager of Joomla and click on the "rebuild" button of the menu manager that should clear the cache and you should see the new alias. You should have the same issue with HikaShop 2.3.1 and HikaShop 2.4.0 as the cache handling of the menu items in Joomla won't change.

We don't do new versions for each patch we add after a release or we would do new releases every day and having to update your HikaShop everyday when nothing changes for you (like it's the case for most people) is a real pain. Now if you want to get always all the patches, you're free to download and install the HikaShop install package every day.
We of course have a testing phase before each release but with thousands of options and thousands of other Joomla extensions or links between HikaShop, Joomla, etc, it's impossible to test everything before each release.
That's also why we have a 1 week period after the release where we don't activate the auto update and wait for feedbacks of the users in order to fix the issues before merchants see the notification of the new release.
You don't have to contribute if you don't want to. But open source or not, paid or not, all software have bugs and it's not possible to avoid them all. We're doing our best to have as less of them as possible.

Thanks for your reply Nicolas that make sense.

The alias issue is resolved.

The display work sort of take a look - I don't have the affiliate link

nor is it between vote and wishlist. Not say that I am going to use that part but notice something is still not right with the upgrade.

Like so often, it takes enabling the affiliate plugin. Did you do that?

Hi,

There are two normal cases (and the only ones I know) when the Affiliates links and options are not displayed:
- When you don't have the Business edition (and thus not access to that capability)
- When you either disabled the HikaShop Affiliates plugin (or removed it) via the Joomla plugins manager.
Like the previous issues, this is not linked to the update as the update doesn't change the state of the plugins, it only install new plugins.

Gesh guys that is what I trying to tell you. I had it in 2.4.0 of the post #194605. Nicolas told me to download it again because they found a bug that fixes the display(css) on the back end so I did. I reinstalled it and after that with me doing nothing else I didn't have the affiliate link or plug-in. Now I have enabled the plugin which is fine it worked but I didn't disable it. It was disabled when I downloaded the revise 2.4.0 version. Now if that is normal thing fine But..

I have business

When you don't have the Business edition (and thus not access to that capability)

and I did not disable it.
When you either disabled the HikaShop Affiliates plugin (or removed it) via the Joomla plugins manager.

Hi,

You say that you had it in the post 194605, but please look at the screenshot there and you'll see that there is no "affiliates" menu in the screenshot. So you already had the affiliate plugin disabled before install again the 2.4.0 after that post.

Just in case, I made extra tests today and I was not able to reproduce the issue. The update was not disabling the affiliate plugin in the tests I made today.
And looking at the code which installs the plugin, even if it was modifying the state of the affiliate plugin (which it isn't in our test), it would put it back to enabled as it is by default when you install it for the first time.
And no one else ever reported such issue with the update.

So maybe there is something else which did that, or maybe someone else did that on your website, or maybe your forgot you disabled previously. But I don't see how it can come from the update.
Now if you're able to reproduce the issue on your end, we would be happy to look at the issue on a copy of your website where we could update HikaShop and have FTP and backend access in order to track down the issue. So if you have again that issue when you update HikaShop next time, we'll be happy to look at it if you can provide that.
