some issue about filter

Hi. I created some custom fields (as drop down or advanced date picker) and i wish create filter for those fields.
I suppose that i can create filter as checkbox or radio button for dropdown custom fields. The problem is that user see only "all" option and not the name of the values of the custom fields to filter the results.
And second question: about advanced date picker what kind of filter do you suggest?

Ok i disabled the dynamic display and this fixed the problem about check box filter. Now i see all the filter options. But about filter per author (single drop down) still i get the issue. I continue to see only "all" and not the name of the authors.
Another question please: is there a way to create filter per TAG? Maybe single drop down field where user select the tag and filter the product per that value?

Which type of custom field do you suggest? I want add ore that one term in that field, like tags work.
