Add user to specific user group after purchase

is it possible to add the user to a specific Joomla user group after he purchased a certain product?

Hi,

Yes, it's possible: when adding or editing a product, you have the option "User group after purchase"* in the section "Custom Fields" where you can select a user group.

will Hikashop send an email to notify the user that it has been added to the new user group? If not, is it possible to notify the user that he is assigned to a new group?

No, HikaShop does not notify the customer of the addition of a user group.

You could develop a plugin to do so.
But since the customer already receives emails regarding the order and/or purchase, a simpler way to notify the customer could be to use e.g. a custom field in the "product" table, restricted to this product and inserted in such emails only.
