I currently have the previous version of Hikashop Essential. How can I download the up to date version of Hikashop 1.5.3?

Go to www.hikashop.com/en/download.html , download the file, upload via 'Extensions' > 'Install/uninstall' in joomla?

I think it updates the install and retains any changes to views/settings you've made within the hikashop control panel.

...this is just what I think happens anyway ...might be best to wait for one of the Hika guys to reply!

You can download the new version via the menu Components->HikaShop->Update/About. Then, you can install that new package via Extensions>Install/uninstall.
As plantpotphil said, you won't loose your data/settings.
