How does the ammount of products affect performanc

How much does the ammount of products displayed on each page affect the performance of the server?
We have 40 products displayed on each page and the server is suffering, would it help to take it down to 20 products?

The amount of products on one page doesn't change much performance wise. 40 products to be displayed should be a piece of cake for any hosting. Are you sure that the sufferings come from HikaShop ? HikaShop has been optimized to handle large amount of products while not hindering performances so it usually comes more from other components/modules/plugins. When you start to have lots of things on your pages, it adds up.
