Well I just updated the latest Hikashop and am very confused again...

I need to know what the sizes and weights of my products are and for each variant which adds to the size and weight,...

How do i do this and How do I check the weights and sizes are being added correctly?

I have the "show dimensions" checked in config but it shows nothing at all for anything..

also, I try to change the weights of variants for products and they just disappear when called back as if I never typed and saved them...

Thanks for any help,
Reed

Hi,

I'm not following you. I've checked your website and I see that you already have products with variants with different size/weight which update when you change the selection:
www.casesmithcustoms.com/index.php/accessories/rack-panels
So I suppose that you already see what size/weight are in each variant/product.
So I don't understand what you mean by " it shows nothing at all for anything.."
And in the backend it's the same. When you edit a product with characteristics, you can simply click in the "variants" tab at the top in order to see the variants and edit one or another to see its size/weight, the same as it was before (even if the look and feel is different).

Could you maybe do some screenshots to describe what you're doing so that we can see what is exactl the problem you're having ? It's maybe an incompatibility with something else on your backend which messes up the display of the product edition page.

Sorry, I was in a rush last night...

1) when I add a weight to a product it disappears on the back end.. I see now though that it does register with the product/variant. It does disappear from the weight line in the back end though (if I add inches of height for example when I go back the figure is still there in the height box)

2) How do I change goods from shippable to egoods?

3) What you describe as working for changing dimensions and weights for product variants of my accessories does work (I realized after posting) ... However I have options for my main products, each option effects the size, weight of the product.

example: a standard product, the customer can pick and option of 2, 3, 4, 5 , 6 and each of those options adds 2 inches of height and 1 pound of weight. THEN the option of depth also can add 4 inches of depth the products.

I am just very confused on how to do all this... If I have the standard product listed and add dimensions and weight to it then it will show those features on the listing, BUT nothing changes when I make changes with the options which effect weight and size (like with the assesory variants...

Lasty, I assume that if I add the size and weight to each "size" option I created it will use that size weight? (it will not show it so how to I know or see what shipping sees?) and then if the height size option is used with the depth size option are they added together? Does one override the other? It is confusing without seeing anything .

Last night when I was picking my product height, then I would pick the depth ( I had no dimensions or weight for the depth option) an red box error was popping up at the top of the site saying "Depth - no height dimension chosen" "Depth - no width dimension chosen" "Depth - no length dimension chosen".

I added those dimensions to the option as height = .001 inches length = .001 inches width ' .001 inches and the error goes away...

Thanks for any help, very confused now...

Hi,

1. I don't see what you mean. Could you do screenshots highlighting the process ?

2. Don't set a weight in them.

3. Variants attributes override the main product attributes. So when you select a variant, if you set a different weight in that variant, it's that weight which is used, etc.
Options are like another product in the cart, but added together with the main product.
So if the main product weights 5kg and the option weights 3kg, the weight of the ensemble in the cart will be 8kg.
You have to imagine that each product (and each option) is a box, with a height, a width and a length. When HikaShop wants to know the shipping fee for a bunch of products, it will first calculate the total height/width/length of the box necessary to fit all the products in. It does that by arranging virtually all the products one next to the other on a line and calculating the total height/width/length of a big box where they would fit in like this. And then, it sends that total height/width/length information to the shipping provider so that he can give back the fee for that box to be shipped.

Thank you for this well explained phrase which clears up my confusion..

I am more concerned with the dimensions of my options on the product variant... So are you saying that of the product variant is:

Height 12 inches
Width 12 inches
Length 22 inches

and someone changes the depth size through an option to 16 inches that I need to make the option have a 4 inch depth in the dimensions for that option and that will simply add to the original 12 inch depth of the variant ?

Thanks for the help, hope this makes sense

Yes, that's basically it.
Ideally, you would configure the option with dimensions like this:
Height 12 inches
Width 4 inches
Length 22 inches
Because realistically, when you add depth to a product via an option, you add depth to the whole surface, not to a square of 0.01inch²
