Show only subcategories in listing

Hi,

I try to show listing of subcategories but I cannot select the main-category. It keeps traversing the category-tree until I select one elementary category. This is not what I want, I want to select a main(top) category and dan save this...

I expect to just select a main-category and then some kind of save-button and all subcategories will be showed in front-end?

What am I doing wrong?
