Core product description before options selected

Hi there,

My client has many products with several variants. For each product he would like the initial product page (before variant options are selected) to show the core product details. Then upon selecting options, to show the variant product details. At the moment, the initial product page show the "default" variant product details (instead of the core product).

He want s a kind of "introductory page" to the product, with pictures representing the collection of different variants available and a description containing comparsion data across the variants. Then upon selecting a set of options, he wants to show the user pictures of just that product variant, with a description tailored to the variant.

I thought this was how hikashop used to work? But not any more? Is there any coding or any options that can be set to recreate this?
