Hi Folks,

Anyone who knows if its possible to force certain products showing up first in the list?
In other words, is it possible to promote some products?

Thanks in advance!

Try sorting alphabetically and adding a space in front of the name of the products you want to promote.

That's not a 'solution' I'm afraid :(
In that case you you still can't manipulate the sorting order individually ..

Maybe you, or anyone else can tell me how to sort by Price by default .. then we're satisfied if my other question hasn't a solution.

Hi,

The best is to create a custom product field and then fill it with numbers for the priority and then order on this custom product field. Or set an ordering in the product listing in backend and then filter on the product_ordering field.

Hi,

There is no sorting by price by default.
So you need to cheat a bit to do it:
- create a custom product field and select the column of the custom field for the "ordering column" setting.
- use the mass actions system (menu System>Mass actions) with an action "update the values" on the custom field column with an operation price.price_value and that will set the price of the products in the custom field column. You can add a trigger 'on after product update' to the mass action so that the custom field is updated automatically when a product is saved in the backend.

Thanks Nicolas for your help :)
I'm still a n00b in this world, so I'm a little but stuck :P

I created a custom field named Prijs and enabled it.
Then I tried to create a mass action, but don't understand what to fill in on some places.

After that, I ask myself how to let the system know which field needs to be updated.
Little confused, sorry.

We took a different approach which allowed the user to select the sort order. We created a filter based on price:

You could also add 'Product name' if want to sort by name as well.

We then added a module (mod_hikashop_filter) to place a button at the top of the product list for the user to select the sort order:

Works great.

@hielkio :
Please follow what I wrote. I said that you should have an action "update the values". I didn't say that you should add a filter to your mass action so remove the filter. And in the action dropdown, select the correct action. I would recommend to switch your interface to english so that you get the correct names in the dropdowns. The translations can sometimes cause some confusion.

Many, many thanks trevsmiff! That was easy to apply :)
I'm very happy to see that there are users who share their knowledge with others.
Mods are also great people here! I'm glad I chose Hikashop instead of another e-commerce package!!

There's only one thing I'm asking myself .. normally you could choose a default value when creating this sort of fields, but not here. Is there a way to set the default sort order to Price Ascending?

Nicolas, you're right, I should change the language of the interface.
Stupid as I am, I don't know how to achieve that (only for Hikashop).

Hi,

The method I recommended in my previous messages is for having the possibility to select the price as default sorting in the settings of the menu item.

You need to log out from your backend, change the language, and login again. All the interface of Joomla will be in English, including HikaShop.
