Hi,

I know that some of the weird behavior I'm seeing is due to the way Joomla works but I've encountered some additional problems. I know that Joomla creates duplicated url's and Hikashop does to. So I have one URL for the menu item set as products listing and Hikashop has another one. But, it never behaved this way before. I'm using Joomla's breadcrumbs and when I access the pages from Hikashop url's on the way up I get weird pages.

This is my page accessed from the menu item:

Part of the message is hidden for the guests. Please log in or register to see it.

And here is the page accessed from the breadcrumbs:

Part of the message is hidden for the guests. Please log in or register to see it.

Is there a way to unify this pages and automatically redirect one to the other?

In addition, I have a problem with the zoom effect in mobile devices. When I click on the image to zoom I get a messed up image with messed up aspect ratio. Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance,

Guy.

Hi,

Yes. You want to enter the main URL you want to use in the "canonical URL" field of your categories/products.
Then, if the "force canonical URLs on listings" setting is activated in the HikaShop configuration, it will use that URL on the listings so you won't get duplicate content. It will provide a better experience for your users, and better SEO ranking.

I've checked on my smartphone and the zoom effect on the product page works fine for me on your product pages. The images display with a correct aspect ratio.
Would it be linked to your smartphone ? its browser ?

Hi,
suddenly I got the same problem. I didn't have it before and I haven't changed anything. I was going through the webmaster tools from google after 10 days of not going, and suddenly it's telling me I got over 100 duplified URLs. So I take a look, and I find that some of the URLs are not even duplified but threeplified.

For example:

www.tiendamat.com/telefonia/cable-telefo...ias-rollo-100-metros

google webmaster tools tells me that it also has:

www.tiendamat.com/?option=com_hikashop&c...3&category_pathway=2

and

www.tiendamat.com/hikashop-menu-for-cate...ias-rollo-100-metros

I really don't get how suddenly this links are created. There weren't 15 days ago, and I haven't changed anything on configuration or the product. The configuration I have on "Force canonical URLs on listings" is "Use cannonical URL and generate it if missing". Might this be a problem or something?

Thank you

Hi,

If you have it set to "Use cannonical URL and generate it if missing", then HikaShop will generate a canonical URL among one of the duplicate URLs and use it as main URL in order to avoid getting duplicated content on search engines.
So that should not happen. It's actually meant to prevent that.

But if you look at the HTML of the page www.tiendamat.com/?option=com_hikashop&c...3&category_pathway=2 you can see that there are actually two canonical URL tag:
take.ms/igsUS
One with the correct canonical URL which is set by HikaShop, and another canonical URL tag which is actually just the current URL of the page set by something else.

So your problem is that you installed/activated something else which adds that second canonical URL tag and which messes everything.

I've seen previously several people with that issue with the SEF plugin of joomla activated, so it might be coming from that. So I would recommend to check on that.

Hi Nicolas,

Thank you for your replay. Using "canonical URL's" was indeed the solution to this issue :)

Hi Nicolas,

Found out today that all my site is duplicated with the consequece SEO penalitzation. When I first read your message didn't understand it correctly and thought it was a 3rd party seo plugin causing the problem, now I fixed it.

The problem is that now, I don't know how to delete all the duplicated URLs. Is there any way I can do it?

Thank you.

Hi,

To avoid a duplicate content SEO error, you need to check one thing:
That you have a canonical URL set in your products and that you don't have another extension adding its own canonical URL on the product pages.
Once that's done, and I checked your website and it is ok now, you can wait that google reindex the pages and it will remove the wrong links after that.
You can also do that if you want as it might be faster:
