When trying to setup Donation product - price of $ 0 not saving

-- HikaShop version -- : 3.3.0
-- Joomla version -- : 3.8.5
-- PHP version -- : 7.0.27
-- Browser(s) name and version -- : any
-- Error-message(debug-mod must be tuned on) -- : none

As per instructions here: www.hikashop.com/10-documentation/hikash...p-field-listing.html

I have created the custom field Donation as:
# Table Column name Label Field type
16 item donation_amount Donation Text

I have created my product, but when I try setting price of $ 0 and $ 0 with Tax, and press OK, and then Save, and come back to check the price, it doesn't save and if I check the item because ( I think ) there is no price, it shows up as a Free product and doesn't work as expected in the Donation scenario.

I have set the Display 'add to cart' button for free products to Yes as instructed and it still doesn't work.

HELP,

Thanks,

E.

Hi,

It's normal that the product shows up as free product if you set a price of 0.
You can just change the wording of that "free" text to something else with a translation override:
www.hikashop.com/download/languages.html#modify
Also, in the "column name of the field" setting of your HikaShop donation plugin (that you can edit via the Joomla plugins manager), make sure that you enter the column name of your custom field if you don't want to use the column name "amount" that we recommend. Because if the column name of your custom field doesn't match with what the plugin expect, the value you enter in the custom field won't be taken into account when you look at the product in the cart after adding it to the cart.

Bonjour Nicolas,

Thanks for the help but I am not sure we understood each other 100% on this... but what you gave me for a reply has already helped to get me further along as my Hikashop Donation plugin wasn't enabled and the donation_amount [column name] wasn't a match but even after the plugin is on and the names match, it's still just not working yet and it could simply be me as part of your explanation I didn't quite understand.

Maybe I should have done screenshots? so here goes:

You'll note that I created a category outside of product_category - not sure if that matters but figured I'd mention it just in case
You'll notice that under the price area the retail price is 0.0000 (I didn't set it it was there) and that under Price / Restrictions / + there is nothing because even though in your documentation example you say to have 0s, I can't set Zeroes here because if I try, it doesn't save them.

On the last image where the Hikashop Content Module shows the Donation product, what I am expecting/trying to get is what I see here:

demo.hikashop.com/index.php/en/hikashop/...t-page/donation-page where the Donation field and typeable box field shows up
on the right [on in my case anywhere in that module ;)]...

Thanks for the further help.

Hi,

Since you don't see the custom field, there is probably a problem with the way you configured it.
For example, if you set the wrong table, or if you restricted to another category than the one of the product, or to other products than this one, or if the frontend listing display setting of the custom field is deactivated.
So please check the settings of the custom field.

Hi Nicolas,

Well, I have checked things based on your advice and if I understood everything [cross-fingers], all of your advice shows things being correct and it still doesn't work.

if you set the wrong table - item table as explained in the documentation [which I am allowed to say isn't showing the new Hikashop which doesn't help - I understand you have lots to update since the new look of Joomla].

if you restricted to another category than the one of the product - not 100% sure I understood that but from what I understood so not the case.
if you restricted to other products than this one - again not 100% sure I understood that but from what I understood so not the case.

If the frontend listing display setting of the custom field is deactivated. - humm no

I have attached more screenshots. [and FYI since then the customer has decided to go Uni-lingual instead of Multi-lingual and even though it doesn't have a bearing on this issues, I figured I'd mention it if you were looking at the screenshot I attached previously and noticed a change].

Thanks!

Hi,

Could you provide a screenshots of the settings of the custom field ? (not from the listing of custom fields, but when you click on it to modify its options).
Could you also provide a link to the product page where want the custom field to display ?

Hi Nicolas,

This latest request of yours made me play with settings on that page and it allowed me to make it work it seems so for that THANKS!
YUPPIE! -

Part of the problem and what is a bit frustrating, if I may with Hikashop is that while you have good support, is that the Help section doesn't come close to matching what is actually going on... on so many sections of Hikashop at this point that we can't self-help ourselves ;(

For example on that page, for Display, it mentions 3 Front end, Back end Form and Back end Listing but that's it.
It doesn't explain:

Front-end Product Listing
Front-end order details page
Product edition form in order
Invoice
Shipping Invoice

or what the others sections and their specifics do:

DISPLAY : CART, DISPLAY : MAIL, as well as other things on that screen.

I understand why this has happened over time - the help sections were made for a version of Hikashop of many many many versions ago... but that doesn't change the issue that there are SO many possible variations, options, settings, parameters that we NEED the help, and it's not always in the Forums (plus that's not good for you guys anyways as it uses up your time to answer 1 more Forum post ;)]

Hoping for improvements in this area soon!

Thanks again for the help.

E.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. We're improving the documentation little by little too, but it takes time too :)

Welcome.
I am sending you a link to the product and screenshots.
It seems to me that there may be a problem with the plugin. I'm not sure if turning it on in joomla causes the plugin to work in hikashop as well.

Hi,

You need to create custom fields of the table "item" not "product". Also, these are only available with the Business edition, not the Essential edition.
In fact, even the donation plugin is only available with the Business edition so I'm not even sure how you're able to have it on your website ?
Anyways, if you need to upgrade to the Business edition for that feature, you can do so in the menu My account>My subscriptions on our website. You'll only pay the difference with the Essential edition.
