Variant images option - images order

Hi,

We love the new Variant images option allowing to display the selected variant images along with the main product ones (or the old way replacing the product ones).

However, taking as an example a color characteristic, the ideal behaviour when one selects a new color, is to have the main image in the product listing imediatly show up with the variant color. However since the variant images show up after the main product ones this does not happen (as the image shown by defect is the first one in the thumbnails).
How could this be solved?
Placing the variant images first (and only then the main product image could help.
What are the developers thoughts on this ?

While on this subject I have one other question:
In our website most textile products have size and color characteristics
and we only want specific variant images to show related to color. How can we take advantage of the new Variant images option functionality without placing specific images of a given color in all sizes for that color?
It's really not practical to have for instance 8 sizes and 5 colors and be placing images in 40 variants when really there area only 5 color variants (each with 8 sizes).

I appreciate the Hikashop developers thoughts (and possible solutions) on this as managing images is the most challenging things we have with Hikashop.

Hi,

1. We didn't thought about this when developing that feature. But that's a good idea. We'll look at changing that setting to add an extra choice to place the variant images first for the next version of HikaShop.

2. What you can do is this:
- first add the color characteristic to your new product
- then add the variants for the colors you'll need for that product and configure the image(s) for each variant
- save the product
- add the size characteristic to the product
- instead of using the "add variants" button to add the other sizes, select the existing variants and click on the "duplicate" button that will appear at the top of the variants listing after you select a variant. Then, select the size characteristic and the values for which you want to duplicate the variants. That will automatically generate the variants for the other sizes prefilled with what you configured in the variants before and thus the other sizes will automatically have the images without having to configure the same image for the different size variants of the same color.
