I use for some the formula field to calculate shipping costs under Shipping Methods such as {weight}*1.50+7
I discovered unless I missed a setting there is no VAT calculation made on that sum.
So the customer does not see the VAT element (as there appears to not be one) and of course being VAT registered we cannot claim that back.

Hi,

The formula is calculated and added to the shipping price of the shipping method before the taxes are calculated on that global shipping price.
So I don't think it has anything to do with the formula. It is either that you've turned off the automatic taxes setting and set the Product tax category setting to none in the shipping method.
That's the first thing I would check.
Or, you've selected a zone in the Override tax zone setting of the shipping method and that zone is not taxed based on the tax rules configured in the System>Taxes menu.
Or you have a problem with the taxes configured in the System>Taxes menu.

Thanks, Nicolas ,really helpful post! Just to clarify, if I’ve set a tax override zone and that zone isn’t linked properly in System > Taxes, would it completely skip VAT on shipping ? Or would it still apply the default tax if no override matched? Just trying to rule out what’s blocking VAT on my end.......

Hi,

If you set a tax override zone in a shipping method, and that shipping method is the one selected on the checkout (or preselected), then this zone will be used for tax rules. If you have no tax rule matching with that zone in System>Taxes, then no tax will apply, not only to the shipping fee but also to the products in the cart.
So, it could well be a cause for no taxes showing up on the frontend in some cases.
Turn off temporarily that shipping method and see if you still have the issue on the frontend. If so, then the problem doesn't come from this.
I would recommend starting with the checks mentioned here:
www.hikashop.com/support/documentation/3...ion-listing.html#faq
If that doesn't help, create a new thread explaining the situation with some screenshots of the tax rules, the tax section in the HikaShop configuration and the URL of the shop would be the next move.
