Matomo

This plugin connects your HikaShop store to Matomo, the open source web analytics platform, so that you get the full ecommerce reports of Matomo for your shop: product and category views, carts, abandoned carts, sales, and the products which convert best. It works with Matomo On-Premise, installed on your own server, as well as with Matomo Cloud.

Features
  • Adds the Matomo tracking code to the pages of your website automatically. No need to add it by hand in your template.
  • Product pages are sent to Matomo as ecommerce product views, with the product code, the product name, the categories of the product and its price with tax.
  • Category listings are sent as ecommerce category views, so you can see which parts of your catalog attract your visitors.
  • The content of the cart is sent to Matomo each time the visitor loads a page, which gives you the abandoned carts report of Matomo.
  • Orders are sent to Matomo with their products, quantities, prices, taxes, shipping costs and discounts, so that your turnover and your best sellers appear in the ecommerce reports.
  • Orders are sent from your server, directly to the Matomo tracking API, and not from the browser of the customer. An order is therefore not lost if the customer closes the browser on the thank you page, or if the payment gateway notifies your website after the customer has left.
  • The visitor id is stored in the order when the order is created, and it is sent along with the sale. The purchase is thus attached to the visit which produced it, instead of appearing as a separate visitor in Matomo.
  • The IP address of the order is used when the sale is sent, so that the geolocation reports of Matomo stay correct.
  • You choose the order statuses for which the orders are sent to Matomo, in the order statuses screen of HikaShop.
  • An order is sent only once, when it reaches one of the selected statuses, so a status changed back and forth does not duplicate the sale in Matomo.
Installation
  • 1) You first need either a Matomo installed on your own server, or a Matomo Cloud subscription.
  • 2) Download the plugin on our website via the download link provided to you after the purchase.
  • 3) Install it on your Joomla website via the extension manager.
  • 4) Enable the plugin "System - Hikashop Matomo" in Extensions > Plugins.
  • 5) Enter the site id, the URL of your Matomo and an auth token in the settings of the plugin.
  • 6) In HikaShop, go to System > Order statuses and select, in the "Matomo" column, the statuses for which the orders should be sent to Matomo.
Configuration
  • Site ID: the id of your website in Matomo. If it is your first website in Matomo, it is 1. You can see it in the Websites > Manage section of the administration of Matomo.
  • Matomo URL: the address of your Matomo. It is given in the integration area of the dashboard of Matomo.
  • Auth token: created in the administration of your Matomo, section Personal > Security, area "Auth tokens". It allows the plugin to send the orders from your server.
  • Order statuses: in System > Order statuses of HikaShop, the "Matomo" column selects the statuses for which the orders are sent. By default, the confirmed and shipped statuses.
Troubleshooting
  • If the visits are tracked but the sales do not appear in Matomo, check the auth token first. The orders are sent from your server with that token, while the visits are tracked by the browser of the visitor, which does not need it.
  • If a sale appears in Matomo as a visitor of its own, without the pages seen before the purchase, the order was created without a visitor id. This happens for the orders created in the backend, and for the visitors who block the tracking script.
  • The plugin writes in the log file of HikaShop when it cannot attach a sale to a visitor. You can read that file in the "Log" area of the HikaShop configuration.
Use
  • This plugin is compatible with all the editions of HikaShop
  • A Matomo installation, on your own server or on Matomo Cloud, is required
  • Compatible with Joomla 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x
  • No limit of time
  • No limit of use
Changelog

1.1.1 on the 16th of August 2026

  • The plugin no longer requires the Joomla plugin "Behaviour - Backward Compatibility" to be enabled. It could previously stop the website with a "Class JPlugin does not exist" error on the recent versions of Joomla when that compatibility plugin was disabled.
  • Fixed the order number missing from the message written in the log file when an order is sent to Matomo without a visitor id. The message now tells you which order is concerned.
  • Fixed an error which could occur on the listings of a menu item pointing to a manufacturer, while the plugin was reading the category of the page.

1.1.0 on the 17th of August 2025

  • The purchases were separated from the rest of the flow of the customer in Matomo. The visitor id is now stored in the order when it is created, and sent along with the sale, so that the sale is attached to the visit which produced it.

1.0.2 on the 25th of March 2024

  • Fixed a JavaScript error on the category listings, which could stop the other scripts of the page.
  • Avoided PHP warnings on PHP 8.2.

1.0.1 on the 2nd of May 2022

  • Fixed an error which could occur on Joomla 4 in some rare cases.
  • Fixed the loading of the categories of the products sent to Matomo.

1.0.0 on the 20th of April 2022

  • Initial release of the plugin.
