Cart empty after adding items Only when logged in

I am in the process of setting up some wholesale accounts and I am having problem with the checkout. I have added a couple of users into the Author group so that when they log in they can see my wholesale categories and prices. Everything works great until I add something to the cart. The module in the left hand column shows the item that is in the cart but the main page re-directs to the product categories and says cart empty. This only happens when I log in with a wholesale account. My normal customers do not register and the cart works fine for them. I'm sure I'm missing something... please help I need to get this working (with out breaking my current workflow).

one last point... this only happens if they add something from the wholesale category

um... tested this like 20 times didn't work... posted this and went back to troubleshooting... now it works
