daltonwatson.com/component/hikashop/checkout-- HikaShop version -- : 2.3.0
-- Joomla version --2.5.17
-- PHP version -- : x.x.x I don't know? How do I check?
-- Browser(s) name and version -- : chrome 34.0.1847.131
-- Error-message(debug-mod must be tuned on) -- : Error_message I don't get an error message.

Our site went down and when we brought it back up any character that wasn't in the English alphabet got changed to a "?". So, in the shipping zones I manually fixed all the countries so that in the zone names they have both the name in english and the spoken language of that country, but now i see the same thing has happened within "states". For example, if you add an item to the cart and act like you are shipping to the country "Georgia" there are several required selections in the "state" drop down menu, all show ?????. How do I fix this?

Hi,

That's because when you exported/imported your tables you didn't use the UTF8 charset encoding and thus all the special characters were lost. Unfortunately, it's not possible to convert back the characters once they are lost.
The simplest solution is to empty your hikashop_zone and hikashop_zone_link tables and run an install of your version of HikaShop so that it put them all back with the correct charset encoding. Of course, that means that if you had customized some of the zones, you'll have to redo these modifications.

By updating HikaShop you won't loose any information. It will just update the files and add new columns in the database if required.
Your views overrides, css overrides, language, configuration, orders, products will stay intact.

But careful if you have modified directly an HikaShop file and you didn't use the backend interface for that....

Note that making a backup is always a good security.
