Hello,

I am about to create an e-shop and I would like to use the Hikashop (business I assume) extension. I have used it in the past and I think it is great! Bravo for your hard work!

My basic concern and need is to have some different fields during the checkout process. For example, I need the shipping method to appear while purchasing some of the products but not for all of them or I need to configure shipping cost for some of the orders (depending on the category of products), but not for all of them. Is this something possible to be done?

Thank you in advance,
Dora

Hi,

The easiest way will be to enable the option "Use price per product" and set allowed shipping methods and price for each products.

Hi Xavier,

Thank you for your reply. Maybe I wasn't clear enough, the shipping method/cost that I mentioned was just an example. I need different fields in general, like a pick-up date also, with different parameters etc...

Thank you,
Dora

Hi,

Please take on consideration of the Xavier's message. He gave you a correct answer for your need.
The plugin "shipping price per product" allow you to set specific prices for a product but it also allow to exclude a shipping method for a specific product.
For sure it is not related to the category, but it is a actual and ready-to-use solution.

Hi Jerome,

Thank you for your response, but I am afraid neither Xavier's reply answers exactly my question nor yours at the moment. My question is:

Is it possible to have different fields on checkout page according to categories? I am not asking for shipping nor costs, but, in general, additional fields I might need to have.

Let me try to be more specific: I have 2 categories A & B.
For purchases from the category A, i need a date field for users to pick-up a specific day for delivery, that can only be Monday or Thursday
For purchases from the category B, I need a date field for users to pick-up a specific day, which can be any day

And in general, I might need in the future to have for purchases from category A let's say a 'Z' field and from category B an 'X' field, but INTO the checkout page.

So, are the above possible to be done, the particular example and the general one?

Thank you in advance,
Dora

Hi,

Custom fields are available for all the order and there is no way to restrict them based on the categories of the products of the cart, at least not for now, unless you customize the code displaying them.
A third party PHP developer should be able to do that for a small fee as it just require normal custom order fields and a customization of the file "fields" of the view "checkout" in order to display or not the fields based on the categories of the products and that can be known with a small SQL query.

Hi Nicolas,

Thank you for your detailed answer, this is all I needed! One last question: after a cutomization like that, any updates of the extension will be applied normally?

Thanks,
Dora

Hi,

If the customization is done via the menu Display>Views, like we usually recommend, the change will be saved as a joomla template override and you won't loose it when you update HikaShop.
Still, it's always best to do a backup before an update of Joomla or the extensions. You never know what can happen :)
