Is it possible to add a Special Instructions field/box somewhere in the Checkout process?
I have three clients now who are asking for this.

Thank you.

Sure!

"How" depends on the conditions (static = always, or dynamic = depending on conditions), and where it's supposed to appear. So, the range of possibilities goes from a simple language override of an existing namekey, to using a custom field, or to editing the proper checkout view by adding more or less code.

Hi,

Yes, you can use the custom order fields. Via the menu Display > Custom fields, create a new one in the order table, with the "textarea" type and with your text as default value.
Then enable the option "Read only" and the one to display it on frontend, and finally add the "field" step in the checkout workflow via the Configuration > Checkout menu.

Just wondering, why would the option be 'read only'?

This box is so that the customers can write a message into it during checkout so that it will be printed out on the invoice/packing slip.

"Special Instructions" are things like, "Leave the package with reception."; or "We are the 2nd house down driveway.", or "I need this before Saturday."; etc.

Hi,

Ok we were thinking that you were needing to display informations, and not collect informations from client.
So you indeed don't have to enable the read more option and set default value.
