Hi,

We have noticed that if a customer has two addresses in their address book, one with company name and another without the company name VAT is only applied if the customer selects the address with the company name?

VAT rules should be applied regardless of company name?

Many thanks.

Hi,

VAT is applied based on the address selected for the billing or shipping of the order based on how the "Type of address used for tax" option of the HikaShop configuration is configured.
A user account is a virtual identity and can be used both by a company and an individual for purchased for the company and for the individual. So other addresses not selected for the current order should not be used for the calculation of the tax of the current order.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.

"Type of address used for tax" simple specifies if the billing address or the shipping address is used for TAX purposes, it does not determain if VAT should be charged if the "Company" name field is filled on not. It doesn't matter wich setting "Type of address used for tax" is on the issue still occurs.

I understand that both individual and company accounts are very similar, however, would it not be better to have a drop down "Individual or Company" rather than expecting companies to fill out their company name?

Hi,

You're talking about an "issue that still occurs", but I don't see any issue.
Yes, the client type is based on the address_company field. But that's something different than choosing to base the system on the shipping or billing address. I don't see the issue ?

If you want a dropdown then that's not a problem. Just edit the field via the menu Display>Custom fields and change its type to a dropdown with one value without its "value" field filled and another one with its "value" field filled and it will be used the same by the system but you'll have a yes/no choice for the customer.
You can even create a new field and limit it to the yes choice of the address_company field so that the customers could enter their company name in that field which would appear when they select they are a company.
Then, you would edit the "address_template" view files for both the frontend and backend and replace the address_company tag with the tag of your new field for the company name and you'll have a complete solution to what you want to do.

Hi,

Sorry I think I may have miscommunicated about the original issue that I had. It was not to do with the shipping/billing address. Anyway, seems you have done a great job and answered the question anyway! Thanks :)
