My client is having issues where users who registered before but now want to order as guest are unable to do so. Why is this restricted and how do i make sure this is possible?

Hi,

A registered account has access to the order history, the address manager and other features on the frontend, which guest users don't have access to.
And, like Joomla, you can only have one user entry for one email address.
And you don't want to convert a user account into a guest entry with just the user providing the email address of the user.
That's why it is blocked.

If you were using registration and switched to guest checkout only, then you should delete the Joomla user accounts of your customers. That way, they'll be able to guest checkout, like the other customers.

Hi,

Ok but this seems not intuitive to the end user. And what is hikashop doing with guest users that i can't allow a existing user to check out as a guest? A guest does not get a user account does it? So what is the harm in a guest checking out with a registered e-mail address? That seems to me like two different "flows" that should not interfere with eachother. Also the order should not show up once the user logs in because it is a "guest" order. no matter the e-mail address provided it should be possible to checkout as a guest. But it would be nice to notify the user like it does now that it should log in if i wants to keep track of order history. or continue checkout as guest.

If it worked like this it would mean the least amount of friction for the customer because altho they have an account they are still able to checkout as a guest if they want to. Now you are forcing them to login to be able to order. And if they forgot their password or want to order fast, they are unable to do so and it could mean potentially missed orders because of it.

I agree with tlweb here. We are currently preparing an online store where it will be possible to register and buy as a guest at the same time. With the default behavior in this case, I cannot use Hikashop.

The same is true for another store, where currently only buying as a guest is possible, but we would like to add the option with registration. In this case, will we be forced to change the ecommerce system?
