Variant stock control

Apologies: I should have looked more carefully before posting. I think what I was looking for was already there even in Starter under "Manage Variants" on the main Product page. Oops.

I have not yet checked how it works with multiple Characteristics, so I may add another edit later.

I'm not entirely sure this should be a forum question, but here goes.

I only have HikaShop Starter, but the "Features List" on the main website doesn't give a lot of detail when presenting the features in more sophisticated versions of HikaShop.

What I have done so far is create a product (say "T Shirts") and created a couple of Characteristics (say "Size" and "Colour"). The problem is that the "Quantity" field in Starter is single valued and does't take account of variant combinations. So, all that the shop knows is the total number of a product line (T Shirts) in stock and has no control over how many, say, small red T Shirts are left. The only way I can see with what I have got to play with is to create a separate product for each combination of characteristic and manage each variant's stock level individually. Which does rather seem to defeat the purpose of the Characteristic field within a product. Unless I have completely misunderstood.

So... if I create a product with one or more characteristics (variants) is there a version of HikaShop which provides end to end stock control on a per variant basis, and if so which?
