View by Category/Brand "Show number of items"wrong

Menu item for category listing: "Show number of items" is enabled.
Issue: number of items displayed in frontend menu is incorrect, it is short by a few. Yet displayed count of products is correct, as well as the Results count at the bottom.
To give a bit more detail: the count in the backend as compared to the front end is higher by a few products in 3 categories.
Is there a way of re-indexing?

Can you show me some screenshots of how did you configured your product/category listing content menu through "Hikahsop->Display->Content menus/modules->Your content menu/module" ?
Also can you give me a link to the page where you are having your issue for testing purpose ?

The front end and back end counts agree, the issue is the brand listing and category listing.
From what I can see category is used to determine product grouping in front end and backend.
From what i can see the "Brand" field is used for the front end product grouping by Brand, the back-end uses Brand category.
My thinking from the tally error is that there is an indexing issue, because it is correct elsewhere.
*** In this image you can see the "Shop by Category" and "Shop by brand". The total count for "Machines" is too low by 2. Should say 24. The total count for "Mask Accessories" is too low by 1. Should say 31. Brand "Fisher & Paykel" is too low by 3, should say 24.

Hi,

When listing in backend, do you filter by "Direct sub elements" ? Or "All sub elements" ?
Because if some products are in sub categories, it can change the value of the count for the current category.
