add text to characteristic

I have what might be a stupid question but I'm just not sure how to do this --

I have two possible prices for merchandise. Member price and non-member price. I have set up a characteristic called 'Prices" that includes the two options. The variant defaults to member price so some people who are not members forget to click on the drop down arrow to choose the right price for their situation and consequently non members are ordering as members.

How should I best handle this? Can I force them to choose by having "Choose price" as the default option of the drop down, and member and non member in the list below it? Or is there a way to add text just above the drop down box reminding them to make the choice that best reflects their situation?

Any help would be great! There is probably a simple answer I'm just missing!

Hi Joanne,
A solution can be to add your "Don't forget to choose price" text through your product description, but if you want to add it above your product characteristic dropdown you'll just have to add your text at the top of your "show_block_characteristic" file of your "product" view through the page "Hikashop->Display->View"

I found the file show_block_characteristic.php but I'm afraid to break it. Can you tell me where to add the text "Please choose the pricing that applies to you." and the html that I should use?

For instance, do I add another row to the table or just a div above it?
